Travelling to China is no less than an epic adventure, and more so when one goes on the explore places that are not glorified in travel brochures. Following is a brief of some of the more exotic locations of the already exotic South Asian paradise:

Yángshuň: Travelling through the rice fields of this town, with the scaling limestone peaks surrounding is probably the high point of one's experience in China, owing to the sheer magnanimity of the scenic beauty. A majority of tourists come to Yángshuň for a few days after the Li River Cruise, but surprisingly end up staying for a longer duration. The town is an international backpacking colony, and the perfect starting point to explore the Chinese countryside.

Huáng Shān: Having the stunning sights of granite peaks and twisted pine trees, Huáng Shān qualifies rather strongly as being one of the most appealing regions in China in terms of visual impact. Many a poet and painter have fallen prey to its natural and unadulterated beauty, with artists wanting to escape the regular commotion of the contemporary world being the chief visitors, a genre that has faded over time and been replaced by travellers looking for a more peaceful and serene stay at one of China's unexplored treasures.

Shanghai: Referred to correctly as the most dynamic city in China, the world's fastest changing nation, Shanghai has evolved like anything over the past few decades, and is showing no signs of slowing down even as it takes over the South East Asian scene as a bustling metropolis that has come to terms with its stature as a respected city that aptly represents the new face of China. In its earlier days, the city was literally a playground for socialites and adventurers who travelled from all over the world to exploit nature's bounty. However, the situation has dramatically changed today, with tycoons born and bred in China leading the pack as far as the social and infrastructural scene is concerned, by building monumental buildings and hosting mind blowing parties. The most commendable part thing about this entire phenomenon is that Shanghai has seemingly done away with its not so glorious past, and accelerated towards a bright future without looking back. Giving the world the most skilled as well as cost effective manpower, the city has an office culture of working as much as seven days a week in order to leap to the next level of advancement. Comparing the city to similar Chinese destinations, it is more resembling Hong Kong than Beijing, as there are no imperial palaces that reek of their centuries old legacy. Instead, there are European style cityscapes and tree-lined neighbourhoods that give the effect of a fusion culture where the east and west blend to form a sizzling pot pourri!
